THE INDIAN CONTEXT

• 42% of university graduates are women; 27% enter the workforce

• Employees in the 20-30 years age group rated companies offering flexible working options and overseas opportunities amongst the top employers.14 India has the largest Gen Y population in the world comprising an estimated 426 million - as such these are statistics that few companies in India can afford to ignore.

• A 2011 survey by Mercer revealed that as many as 54% of employees in India were considering leaving their current positions.

• There is a significant drop off of women between junior and middle level positions (48%).

• Attrition amongst Gen Y, on average, is at 20% to 25%'.

• As the Indian economy expands and as job opportunities grow, companies risk losing talent if they do not cater or respond to their needs. Creating a workplace culture where employees feel valued, supported and able to develop their full potential to make best use of their unique talent, is critical to differentiating a company's employer brand.
